The Exumas
Great Exuma & Little Exuma are just two of the 365 islands and cays in the chain of Exuma Cays located in the Bahamas. Known for the stunning turquoise waters, the Exumas offer visitors so many things to do. Here are a few of our favorites.
We have only listed here places we have visited or services we have used with a positive experience. This is by no means a comprehensive list!

Beaches Please
-
CocoPlum Beach
Our Personal Fave
Online reviews are mixed, nothing here but beach. At low tide you can walk out for hundreds of yards. Best for folks who like to float and be still. Best to visit at low tide. Road is tough to get through if it rained recently. -
Man'O War Cay Sand Bar
Is this a beach? Technically no, but it is worth the visit. Find a boat and get your butt to this sand bar! Again, this is a low tide adventure. Less lingering, but an amazing site, a great place for a walk in the shallow water surrounded by ocean.
-
Topic of Cancer Beach
A must-see for many visitors, this is one of the many beautiful beaches. Not hidden, but not easy to find, and not easy to get to. Make sure your rental car tires are up for the challenge. This beach can get a bit “crowded” in the busy season.
-
Jolly Hall Beach
This white sand beach offers shade and is somewhat protected from the wind, so it can offer a reprieve from waves on windy days. Parking is just along the street. Rumor has it there is a new beach bar with kayaks for rent, and it’s around the corner from Hideaways.
-
Pretty Molly Bay
Pretty Molly Beach is just a little north of Forbes Beach, which is also a gem on Little Exuma. Pretty Molly is one of our top spots because it is protected, is awesome for snorkeling, and doesn’t require 4-wheel drive. Bring your water shoes if you want to explore the rocky areas.
Shops to Visit
-
Prime Island Meats
Deli & Grocery Store
The closest stop from the house. Great selection of fresh meat from the butcher. Some produce and refrigerated items. Pantry and household items as well. -
Smitty's
Groceries & Convenience Store
Just a half mile down the road from Prime Island. Smitty’s also has a drug store and more household needs than you might find elsewhere. -
Exuma Markets
Groceries
The largest and most reliable grocery store on the island. This is a full-size store with all your typical grocery fare, even a freezer section with ice cream! -
Straw Market
All local, mostly handmade gifts. T-shirts, bags, baskets, jewelry, carvings, toys, and more. Each stall is owned and operated by a different vendor. All purchases must be made in cash.
-
Sandpiper Boutique
We always stop to visit Sandpiper Boutique. They have resort wear, charming books and children’s gifts, stickers, swimsuits, jewelry, pottery, and a large selection of UPF shirts.
